How can we help you?
We encourage our patients to be proactive when it comes to learning about their dental care. Dr. Michael Allen and our team always explain procedures in detail, and we know that there’s a lot to think about. That’s why it’s vital that you share any concerns or questions you may have about your proposed treatment. The best way for us to meet your expectations is to understand what’s important to you.
We’ve gathered a few of the questions our team hears most often and shared them here. You probably have many more of your own, so please call our office and a friendly member of our team will be happy to assist you.
Restorative dentistry involves any dental services we use to return your teeth to full, healthy function and appearance. Treatments like fillings and dental crowns and bridges probably come to mind because they are the most commonly used.
Restore Your Smile
But nearly every service that we offer at Sabino Hills Family Dentistry can be considered restorative. Dentures, orthodontics, and even gum disease treatments are all services we provide at our Tucson dental office and may use as part of a plan to restore the health and beauty of your smile. Even cosmetic procedures like porcelain dental veneers may be considered to be restorative.
The truth is that restorative dentistry is whatever you need it to be. If you come to us with dental concerns like broken, decayed, or missing teeth, we will personalize your treatment to meet your unique needs.
After evaluating your situation, Dr. Allen will explain all the options available, and, working together, we’ll choose one or more services to help you achieve a healthier, more attractive smile.

For decades silver (amalgam) fillings were used because they were the most durable material available at the time. Today, we can use tooth-colored fillings (composites) at our Tucson dental office that are every bit as strong as amalgam.
The most noticeable difference between the two materials is the obvious dark spot that an amalgam filling leaves in your mouth. These fillings aren’t typically used in front teeth that are visible when you smile. But you still have to contend with the dark chunk of silver material in back teeth when you open wide!

On the other hand, tooth-colored fillings are specifically designed to be aesthetically pleasing. First, we have control over the shading of the material and can create a customized color for your filling that blends with your natural tooth. Also, the method for placing tooth-colored fillings at our Tucson dental office is very different from amalgam.
An amalgam filling basically just sits inside the prepared space. A tooth-colored filling is bonded securely to all surfaces of the tooth. This results in a filling that’s not only strong but is also indistinguishable from the rest of the tooth.
