3 Ways to Encourage Your Kids to Up Their Hygiene Game

Two Girls Pretending to be Dentists | Children's Dentistry in Tucson AZ

We can’t stress enough the importance of starting your child off right away with healthy oral hygiene habits. Working with parents and practicing children’s dentistry at our Tucson, AZ office has taught us that kids CAN be motivated to get interested in taking care of their teeth.

How to Create a Healthy Oral Hygiene Routine

Our goal is to help them get so accustomed to the idea that brushing becomes second nature. Here are some fun ways you can encourage your child to learn about and stick to a healthy oral hygiene routine.

  1. Get started early – Do you know how to help your child learn good oral health habits? Practice, practice, practice! We recommend that you start cleaning your baby’s teeth as soon as they appear. Doing so ensures that by the time they are ready to take over the job, it will already be a habit.
  2. Brush with your child – Kids love to imitate adults. Show them that you enjoy taking care of your teeth, and the chances are good that they will do the same. Make it fun – play one of their favorite songs or start a timer to motivate them to brush a little longer every day. Use your imagination to make things fun and light.
  3. Let your child choose their toothbrush – There are certain things to keep in mind when selecting a toothbrush for your child. For instance, we recommend a very soft brush to start. But there are loads of colors and designs to choose from both online and at the drug store. Make it a fun trip and let them pick out the one they like best. They will feel very grown up with their very own special brush!

At our children’s dentistry office in Tucson, AZ, we have lots of methods for getting your child interested in their oral health care. Please call to make an appointment for your child so we can talk about how you can get them on the way to a lifetime of healthy oral hygiene habits.
